Last night, the SpeakerUp event was held for Podcamp Nashville this year. We had a fantastic meeting and if you missed it, shame on you. But…. Luckily you can catch the entire video (thanks to @mDave) here via Ustream.
Several great ideas were brought up during the meeting around the subject of ways to get involved in the time before March 26. One of those ideas was a blog tour where ANYONE can pick a day to write a blog post on the subject of Podcamp. I loved the idea and before I knew it, had volunteered myself to help with it. So here’s the details:
What’s a blog tour?
A blog tour is the same thing as concert tour or a book tour but it’s hosted on several different blogs. Each day, starting today and going until Podcamp (March 26) We are going to have one blogger/podcaster/vlogger a day, write about Podcamp Nashville. There are 37 days until Podcamp; We want to have 37 different bloggers participate.
Why write a post?
- You’ll help promote Podcamp
- You’ll help promote and support Nashville’s tech community
- You’ll help promote your blog!
If those 3 reasons aren’t enough to convince you, leave me a better reason in the comments and I’ll add it.
The other question I’ve been asked a lot is what to write about on this blog tour. Here’s a few ideas to get you started.
Ideas for your Podcamp blog tour post
- Why your going to Podcamp this year.
- What you expect out of it.
- What you hope to learn.
- If you’ve been chosen to speak at Podcamp, Start the conversation about your topic NOW. Get some feedback. Start a Q&A session.
- If public speaking isn’t your gig, feel free to teach through your blog post (with Podcamp in mind, of course)
- Encourage others to get involved. Come up with other ways to help, promote, recruit volunteers and take it upon yourself to organize the effort!
The core of Podcamp, and the uncoference culture in general, is experimentation. The focus shouldn’t be on coming up with the awesome ideas, it’s executing or helping with an idea while learning from your experience and sharing it along the way.
So here’s what you can start right NOW:
- Sign up to be a part of the #PCN11 Blog tour here: {Signup Spreadsheet} and write a blog post about one of the topics above (or choose your own!)
- Find someone who may need a little help executing their idea. Follow the #PCN11 hashtag on Twitter and throw out a tweet saying your willing to help.
- Sign up to speak at Podcamp! Registration just opened today and it will close in one week. You can sign up here to Create your Podcamp Session.
- Start your own idea for Podcamp. We already have one person creating a Podcamp song, a few others that are going to broadcast live, a few more that are going to blog live from Podcamp and thats just the beginning. Organize and experiment with your own idea!
- Volunteer to help with Podcamp before and during the event.
